Important Phrases III

This article will go on with poker phrases you should know when you use money poker sites. Last time I left off at the letter E.

Whether you play ring games or tournaments on Ultimate Bet for Mac, it would be wise to learn about “effective stacks”. If two people are in a pot together, the maximum either of them can bet is the total in the shortest stack. The shorter stack is the effective stack. If Mike has 1,400 chips and Anna has 5,000, the effective stack is 1,400.

For the F term, let’s talk about the word “flip”, something that can occur when friends get together for friendly games on a Lucky Ace Poker download. Basically the players involved in a flip agree to go all-in preflop with whichever cards are dealt to them. You might be thinking to yourself that this does not coincide with the definition of flip you heard the other day. Well a flip can also describe a situation in which you have 50% equity. For example, if you sit at a cash table and you get it all-in preflop with QQ vs AK, this is referred to as a flip because you take down the pot around 50% of the time.

I thought “gutshot” was a good word to pick for the next letter. A straight draw with 4 outs is called a gutshot straight draw. For example, say you chose to play some hands rather than play Craps online, and you get dealt 78 preflop. You open limp on the button and the flop comes 59K. Your draw is a gutshot since you only have a straight when a particular card comes, which usually means you have just 4 outs. The word gutshot is interchangeable with “inside straight draw”.

“Hero fold” is my H phrase. It is a hero fold when you reluctantly lay down a strong hand. For example, maybe you are sitting at tables on your Everest Poker download and you are against a passive player that never raises. You peel 45 and get a 678 flop, but when you bet, your opponent raises! Laying this hand down to one raise is a good example of a hero fold. At first these hands will seem unfair, but unlike many other games, poker is a thinking game and sometimes tough decisions are prudent.

I’m going to stop there, but I will start off with the letter "I" when I update this blog next month. Between now and then, hopefully you play a ton of hands.
